John Ma is a digital product designer with 3+ years of design and shipping experiences (AI, AR/VR, data analytics SaaS softwares, 3D animations) with a background in front end programming (dabbed in 3js and basic HTML/CSS). I love to bring users problems from conception to functional high fidelity prototypes while driving design decisions in the intersection of well balanced user needs and business goals.
Fascinated in tackling and building components for scalable design systems. Obsessed with pixel perfect UIs. Loved breaking down ambiguous problems into smaller segments. Energized by collaborating with people from different domains.
Currently designing and prototyping the future of holographic office @Spatial. Previously took the initiative to design, prototype and launch Scan Features, Lens Collections and Premium Lenses @Snap, created web dashboards and deployed behavioral assessment PDFs in sandbox environment using curl command @Yobs, rebranded hand tracking and haptics website @Ultraleap. Also spent some time designing motion graphics for LA Hacks and mobile application for StudySmart.

MARCH 2021 - NOW
Scoped and redesigned the foundation and visual system for a better experience for Scale's IDE for machine learning, from improving the usability of powerful autotag feature to analyzing long tail of the dataset through similarity search.
FALL - NOW 2020 | VR, MR and 3D Modeling
Ideated, designed and prototyped an end to end camera feature in holographic office, building the foundation for next generation 3D computing platform and operating system.
Ideated, designed and shipped 3 main features around AR Lenses @Snapchat's Camera Platform in Summer 2020
Designed and launched 2 end to end features for Snapchat's camera platform team. Ideated and pitched new scan experiences to the perception team and improved the overall AR experiences. Reach me out for more details.

Worked closely with engineering lead to design and deploy personality's web dahsboards, NLP generated behavioral assessment and slide decks that led to 1000+ customers with Nissan and $50K contract with PWC and EY.
SUMMER 2019 | WEB UX/UI, MOTION DESIGN, USER RESEARCH
Led the redesign for Flagship product’s page and Unity Core Asset’s website and conducted usability testings with 20+ cross functional internal partners on haptics’ UX under business and tech constraints

Rediscovering a new way for students to study effectively. A crowdsourced application that tracked study places' crowdedness and improved studying efficiency.
